Course unit code: T56C106

General information

Credits
5 cr

Objective

You understand the structure of programmable digital circuits (SPLDs, CPLDs and FPGAs). You are able to program these circuits by using PC software and the VHDL language.

Content

What are the programmable digital circuits (SPLDs, CPLDs and FPGAs)? Which kind of building blocks do they consist of? How are they programmed? What are SoPC (System on a Programmable Chip) solutions? What are the hardware description languages (HDLs)? How is the VHDL language used for simple design tasks? How can more complicated design tasks be solved by using library functions and commercial VHDL design packages (“intellectual property”)?

Qualifications

Digital electronics and processors

Assessment criteria, good (3)

a) You can use professional terms correctly b) You can find information from circuit manufacturers´web pages and the VHDL resources in the web c) You perceive the computer-aided digital design process e) You can solve simple design tasks using FPGA design software and the VHDL language
