Objective

You can present the principle of a production plant's process automation system.
You can describe the most important tasks of process control and related safety automation.
You can read and interpret basic automation circuits based on a PI diagram.
You know how to make functional descriptions for measurement and control circuits, taking automation planning into account.
You can interpret power plant automation instrumentation and motor circuits and their functions.

What does the process automation system consist of?
How does information transfer from the process to the control room and from the control room to the controlled device?
What can be read from a PI diagram?
What should be considered when designing process automation systems?
What do the basics of programming mean in automation?

Accomplishment methods

Students can
a) use professional vocabulary and concepts in an expert way in different situations.
b) assess information sources critically.
e) choose appropriate models, methods, software and techniques according to the purpose and justify these choices.
