Objective
Knowledge, understanding and proficiency of:
- minimize the risk of fire and maintain a state of readiness to respond to emergency situations involving fire.
- fight and extinguish fires.

- The elements of fire and explosion, the fire triangle
- Shipboard fire-fighting organization
- Location of fire-fighting appliances and emergency routes
- Types and sources of ignition
- Flammable materials, fire hazards and spread of fire
- The need for constant vigilance
- Actions to be taken on board ship
- Fire and smoke detection and automatic alarm systems
- Classification of fire and applicable extinguishing agents
- Fire-fighting equipment and its location on board
- This course includes a two-day basic fire-fighting part (A VI/1-2) at Meriturva
