Introduction to stylist's and costume designer's work (5 cr)

Objective

After finishing the course you:
- know how to create contacts with people and enterprises that are useful and necessary for your professional work and career
- are familiar with the professional field of a fashion/clothing designer, costumier/costume designer and stylist as an entrepreneur, freelancer or in the service of a company/organisation
- are familiar with stylists’ work in the field of commerce, television or audiovisual media, fashion styling and fashion journalism as well as in the field of event planning and styling
- understand the role and responsibilities of a clothing/fashion designer when designing and producing fashion collections
- understand and know the field of performing arts
- understand work as a process from ideas to manuscript and further on to the final product that can be a unique stage outfit, music video, advertisement, dance production, theatrical performance, television program or a movie
- know the western theatrical history and the various jobs in a theatre
- learn to deepen your professional knowledge through excursions and company visits

Study forms and methods

Studies can follow different tracks depending on students’ situations in life. There are three different tracks for the studies: scheduled track, independent track and blended track

Plan which track is best for you with your personal counselor of your studies. The final way how one will participate in the course will be determined together with the teacher of the course.

RDI and work-related cooperation

The students will visit different companies during the course. For example, fashion houses, theatre wardrobes and theatre museum. The course is organized by combining company visits, teams lectures, campus lectures andvisiting professionals during lectures.

Timing of exams and assignments

Different themes related to clothing and costume design, involving independent and group work which need to be passed.

International cooperation

During this course, international collaboration means familiarising students with international work possibilities, ways of working and to broadens students world view.
