Objective

Ability to act immediately and correctly in collision and grounding situations as well as to make an instant assessment of the damage and to control the situation. Knowledge of sea rescue procedures: the man-overboard procedures, to rescue persons and to assist a vessel in distress. Ability to organise drills, use survival craft, rescue boats and other life-saving appliances, and control fire-fighting operations aboard ship.

Content

Safety management, actions to be taken following a collision, a grounding or other emergengy situation, survival and fire fighting techniques, SOLAS Convention, safety instructions and safety diagrams for ships. Includes Advanced Training in Fire Fighting -course (STCW A-VI/3, Maritime Safety Training Centre, Meriturva, Upinniemi) and Practical Personal Rescue Training Day (Meriturva, Lohja).

Assessment criteria, good (3)

Excellent (5), good (4-3), fair (2-1); fail (0).
