Objective
Knowledge and understanding of and proficiency in:
- fire-fighting operations, organization and actions on gas tankers and ships subject to the IGF code
- fire fighting agents, equipment and methods used to control and extinguish gas-based fires
Content
- organization of fire fighting operations on tankers and IGF ships
- special characteristics, hazards, and fire-fighting methods regarding liquefied gases
This course includes a basic practical fire-fighting exercise at a certified fire training centre.
Materials
- Gas tankers and ships subject to IGF code basic training, BTT-G & IGF 1 (STCW A-V/1-2-1, A-V/3-1)
- Fire fighting (A-VI/1-2)
Further information
Participation in all lessons and training sessions is obligatory.

In addition, competence evaluation according to STCW code tables A-V/1-2-1 and A-V/3-1 columns 4 are used:
- initial actions on becoming aware of an emergency conform with accepted practices and procedures
- action taken on identifying muster signals is appropriate to the indicated emergency and complies with established procedures acknowledging special characteristics of gas fires
