Objective

Knowledge and understanding of and proficiency in:
- infrastructure of local networks and buses
- purpose and procedures of protocols
- defining the importance of security in different networks
- defining encryption methods used in different networks
- defining different methods to ensure security
- cyber security in automation technologies

Content

- structures of topologies
- operating principles and cabling of local networks and buses
- operating principles and features of active devices
- subnet creation
- protocol concepts and most used applications
- TCP / IP and OSI architectures, basic protocols for transport, network and transport layers, quality of IP service
- basic concepts related to information security
- processing of encryption keys
- security of information and communication systems, user management and authentication

- Laboratory course in communications networks
- Approved training during studies

Accomplishment methods

Students can
- use professional vocabulary and concepts in an expert way in different situations
- choose appropriate models, methods, software and techniques according to the purpose and justify these choices

In addition, competence evaluation according to STCW code table A-III/6 column 4 are used:
- computer networks and computers are correctly checked and handled
