Objective

You become familiar with the history of the youth, the origins and meaning of youth cultures from society's point of view. You recognize and analyze topical phenomena in the framework of youth culture.

Content

What kind of movements and progressions does the history of youth cultures contain? What kind of an image do the media portray of youth? How do subcultures and youth phenomena manifested themselves in different times? How the socially constructed gender, gender roles and diversity of gender and sexuality represent in the experiences of youth? How does the youth research of different times regard youngsters as a member of society?’

Evaluation

a) You can use concepts related to youth and youth cultures systematically.
b) You know how to look for information in the key information sources on youth cultures and phenomena related to youth.
c) You identify the meaning of youth cultures in the lives of youth and on a broader scale in society.
