Objective
Knowledge and understanding of and proficiency in:
- safety management
- safety management systems and their exploitation according to ISM regulations
- security management
- security related matters of ISPS regulations that are required for security officers working in ports, shipping companies and on board a ship
- security and safety plans
- cyber security
- risk assessment and management
- international conventions concerning ships' seaworthiness, cargo and environmental worthiness

- SOLAS (Safety of Life at Sea) and MARPOL (Marine Pollution) 73/78 Conventions where applicable
- SOLAS Chapter IX ISM regulations

Evaluation
Students can
- use professional vocabulary systematically
- evaluate information sources critically
- choose appropriate models, methods, software and techniques according to the purpose and justify these choices
- apply critically the ethical principles of the professional field in different situations
In addition, competence evaluation according to STCW code tables A-II/2 and A-III/2 columns 4 are used:
- the crew are allocated duties and informed of expected standards of work and behaviour in a manner appropriate to the individuals concerned
- procedures for monitoring operations and maintenance comply with legislative requirements
- potential non-compliance is promptly and fully identified
- operations are demonstrated to be in accordance with applicable rules
- emergency procedures are in accordance with the established plans for emergency situations
