Objective

After completing the course, you will understand the cost structure of manufacturing and the factors that have a significant impact on it. You are familiar with the main principles of choosing a manufacturing method, and are familiar with how to reduce costs per manufacturing method. Your understanding of the actual manufacturing costs of parts and products will increase. You also know how to make investment calculations for production machines and how to operate in an investment project. In addition, you are familiar with the indicators and key figures commonly used in production.

Content

• Production cost structure • Manufacturing method selection • Manufacturing batch size and set-up times • Cost distribution of machinery and minimisation of costs • Examples of actual manufacturing costs using key manufacturing methods • Quality costs and their reduction • The roles of production control and automation in cost efficiency • Investment calculations for production machinery • Production efficiency indicators and key figures

Qualifications

Basics of key manufacturing methods and ability to read engineering drawings.

Assessment criteria, satisfactory (1)

You know and can identify some factors that affect manufacturing costs. You know how to take some steps to reduce production costs.

Assessment criteria, good (3)

You are familiar with all the cost factors of manufacturing and the operating methods for cost-effective production. You can identify and know indicators for different functions in production.

Assessment criteria, excellent (5)

You will be able to apply what you have learned in the course to minimise the costs incurred in the production. You understand the reasons for the costs incurred and are also able to make long-term cost-effective decisions. You know how to use indicators and key figures to describe the efficiency of production.
