Responsible Food ProductionLaajuus (5 cr)

Objective

Student understands the concept of responsibility and is able to ponder food production from different perspectives of responsibility. Student knows the factors that affect the health and productivity of the soil and field. Student understands the importance of nutrient cycling and diversity for crop production and its environmental impact. Student identifies measures related to the responsibility of cultivation at a farm level. Student understands the importance of animal welfare as part of responsible food production. Student knows the natural behavior of production animals and is able to observe and evaluate factors related to animal welfare in production conditions. Student understands the connection between biosafety, food security and animal welfare. Student knows the main methods of the prevention of infectious animal diseases and the principles of responsible use of antibiotics.

Opiskelija tietää vastuullisuuden käsitteen ja sen eri näkökulmat. Opiskelija tunnistaa maaperän ja pellon kasvukunnon tekijät. Hän ymmärtää, että ravinnekierto ja monimuotoisuus ovat merkityksellisiä kasvintuotannolle ja sen ympäristövaikutuksille. Opiskelija tunnistaa peltoviljelyn vastuullisuuteen liittyviä toimenpiteitä tilatasolla. Opiskelija ymmärtää, millä tavoin eläinten hyvinvointi on osa vastuullista ruoantuotantoa. Opiskelija ymmärtää ainakin jonkin tuotantoeläimen lajinmukaisen käyttäytymisen ja osaa tunnistaa eläinten hyvinvointiin liittyviä tekijöitä tuotanto-olosuhteissa. Opiskelija tunnistaa, että bioturvallisuus ja ruokaturva sekä eläinten hyvinvointi ovat yhteydessä toisiinsa. Opiskelija osaa tarttuvien eläintautien ennaltaehkäisyn menetelmiä ja vastuullisen mikrobilääkkeiden käytön perusteet.
