Objective

The student strengthen and expand their basic skills in Finnish language at the level A2. The student communicates with simple sentences in everyday life and some professional communicative situations. The student understands general speech and recognizes the topics in a conversation. The student has learnt to guess the meaning of unfamiliar words and categories of words. The student writes short texts on familiar and everyday topics with the most common vocabulary and structures. CEFR (Common European Framework Reference level) A2.2, developing basic language skills

Content

The focus is on everyday and professional situations. Finnish grammar and communication skills, including speaking, writing, speech comprehension and reading. Grammatical themes covered include verb tenses, plural nouns and some other noun structures, and different sentence types. Communicational situations introduce everyday language situations at home and in working life, e.g.: running errands, traditions and holidays, and education and work. The differences between spoken and written language are taken into account. The language of teaching is mainly Finnish. English is used as necessary.

Assessment criteria, satisfactory (1)

The student - communicates in some situations in everyday life - recognizes the topics in a conversation, easy general speech and text concerning everyday life - has the ability to guess the meaning of some unfamiliar words in a text or in a conversation in a clear context - writes short and simple texts on familiar and everyday topics - knows some common vocabulary (e.g. running errands, traditions and holidays, and education and work) - knows some common structures (e.g. verb tenses, plural nouns and some other noun structures, and different sentence types)

In addition to the lower grade requirements, the student - communicates in some official settings - writes short texts on familiar and everyday topics with little errors - uses some common vocabulary and structures

Assessment criteria, excellent (5)

In addition to the lower grade requirements, the student - recognizes some details in short texts and communicative situations concerning everyday life - communicates in everyday life and in some work-related communicative situations - uses the most common cohesive devices
