Objective

In this course, we explore diversity: what it is, how we can engage with it and how we can promote it. We identify the association between diversity and inclusiveness, equality and fairness and also look at how diversity contributes to the appeal of an organisation and its success. Understanding the legislation is the starting point for actively promoting diversity. The course helps students develop an awareness of the sensitive nature of diversity and how different communities may perceive minorities. On successfully completing this course, students will: - be familiar with the concepts and legislation around diversity - understand the links between diversity, inclusiveness, equality and fairness - have the skills to actively promote diversity within their own organisations, recognising the challenges of fostering diversity. - be able to identify ways to help organisations engage with different people and draw on their potential. - Recognise the thought patterns and structures that are barriers to diversity and be able to act to counter them. - Recognise competing discourses around diversity.
