Objective

Knowledge, understanding and proficiency of:
- ship stability control.
- stability of a damaged ship.
- effect of free surfaces of liquids and compartments of a ship.
- IMO regulations and conventions concerning ship stability.

Ship Damage stability theories
Effect of free surfaces of liquids
Calculations of stability and trim of a damaged ship
Methods of increased weight and lost buoyancy
Calculations when grounded
Regulations and conventions regarding a damaged ship

Discussion with the teacher and, where appropriate, PSP-planning with your own mentor teacher.

Teaching methods

Scheduled track:
You will attend teaching and guidance sessions as specified in the schedule. Teaching in class: Damaged ship stability and buoyancy basics, international requirements, operations to prevent damaged ship from capsizing and sinking. The calculations in class and practical training in the computer class (the NAPA program of getting acquainted).

Independent track:
You attend your study in the multi-mode education. Degree of Deck Officer, operational level (STCW A-II/1) OR Degree of Engineer Officer, operational level (STCW A-III/1) OR Certificate of Competency: Deck Officer / Engineer Officer IS REQUIRED.

Blended track:
Discussion with the teacher and, where appropriate, PSP-planning with your own mentor teacher.

Completion alternatives
