Objective

Knowledge and understanding of and proficiency in:
- ship handling in different conditions
- handling of different ship types
- anchoring and mooring in different conditions
- a capability to operate the vessel in all conditions using all available equipment, systems and resources

Content

- ship handling theory
- the influence of wind
- current and shallow water and narrow fairways (SQUAT, bank effect, interaction/suction)
- different steering and propulsion systems
- manoeuvring tests
- rate of turn/radius
- steering in rough weather and ice covered water and VTS areas
