•   Biomass refining BI00CX98-3002 26.08.2019-20.12.2019  5 credits  (BISA17SM) +-
    Learning outcomes of the course
You recognize the main concepts of biorefineries using different biofeedstocks and the role of them in increasing renewable energy production and preventing climate change. You recognize the foremost important biomass refinery processes and process steps; gasification, pyrolysis, digestion, Fischer Tropsch, hydrogen treatment, fermentation etc. You especially recognize the process chains converting forest- and lignosellulosic-based biomass to biofuels.
You understand the potential and targets of future biorefineries related to developing new bioproducts, such as biofibrils, -chemicals, -plastics and composites.
    Prerequisites and co-requisites
    Raw materials of forest industry
    Course contents
What kind of biofuels can be produced of biofeedstocks? What are the differences between fossil and bio products?
What are the process steps in biorefineries? What are the main process parameters and chemical reactions and changes?
What kinds of byproducts can be generated in the refineries of forest industry integrates? What are the properties of the byproducts?
