Objective

You understand buildings as the sum of their parts.

You are able to differentiate between non-load-bearing structures and supporting structures, and you know the difference between them.

You know typical building structures and understand in which parts of the building they are used.

You know the most common building materials, and you know their context of use.

You know when special design is needed and recognize its potential.

Content

What kind of different constructional elements are there in a building, and what are their roles?

How do you know which parts of the building will bear and what can be removed without compromising the building?

What types of different structures exist, and how are they used?

How do you take into account different construction materials and their appropriate context of use?

How do you take into account HVAC technology (heating, ventilation and air conditioning) in planning?

Evaluation

Students can

a. use professional vocabulary systematically.

b. look for information in the key information sources of the field.

e. use the key models, methods, software and techniques of the professional field.

g. justify their actions according to the ethical principles of the professional field.
