Objective

You understand the circular economy model, where products, materials, and equipment remain in use for a long time and safely, within the limits of the environmental carrying capacity, and circulate sustainably.
You understand that the circular economy model brings changes to product design and manufacturing, as well as creates new business and collaboration models.
You understand the principles of sustainable design and their significance in the design of equipment and processes in the process industry.
You can apply life cycle thinking in process industry design and assess the environmental impacts of products and processes.
You are capable of applying what you have learned in practice through case analyses and project work, and solving real design situations in accordance with the principles of sustainable development.

Content

How to minimize material consumption and waste in production processes? How to reduce water and energy consumption in processes? How do material choices affect the recyclability of the final product? What is the circularity rate of materials? How can design improve remanufacturing, reuse, and recycling? How can sustainable development principles, such as lifecycle thinking, resource efficiency, and environmentally friendly technologies, be applied in the design of production and products in the process industry? How to assess the social, ethical, environmental, and economic impacts of design solutions?

Evaluation

Students can:
Use professional vocabulary and concepts in an expert way in different situations.
Assess information sources critically.
Work as team members in working life expert duties and identify and describe the problems of the professional field.
Assess operations in customer/client, user and target groups situations.
Choose appropriate models, methods, software and techniques according to the purpose and justify these choices.
