Objective

You understand what the carbon cycle in the ecosystem, carbon sinks and carbon storage are.
You learn about the consequences of the disruptions to the natural carbon cycle and the international efforts to mitigate the impacts of climate change. You understand carbon cycle as part of bioeconomy and the possibilities of life cycle assessment in carbon management. You study technologies of carbon capture and storage as well as the potential of bioeconomy solutions for carbon sequestration.

What are the consequences of the disruptions to the natural carbon cycle?​

What technologies can be used in carbon capture and storage? What possibilities do new energy technologies provide?

How can forest bioeconomy be utilized in carbon sequestration?

Further information

The course consists of 3 ECTS credits of theory and a case study of 2 ECTS credits whose topic students select according to their interests.

Evaluation

Students can:
a. use professional vocabulary and concepts in an expert way in different situations.
b. assess information sources critically.
g. apply critically the ethical principles of the professional field in different situations.
