You are able to actively use the basic professional vocabulary of your field.
You are able to look for information in English in professional sources and apply it in different study and work related communication situations.
You are able to communicate in English orally and in writing in various situations in your professional field.

What professional vocabulary is essentially necessary?
How to look for information in professional sources in English and how to apply this information?
How to interact in spoken communication situations in English and how to draw up texts in English for professional purposes?
How to communicate in study-related situations and work communities in English?

Study forms and methods
Scheduled track:
This is a joint implementation of Professional English for Game Design students, aimed at groups GDKV18SP and GDKV20KM.
Students attend instruction according to the timetable. Studies follow the timetable of contact classes and assignments that are completed independently. This course is mainly implemented online, with contact sessions arranged on Kouvola campus.
Blended track:
Completing studies quicker takes place by choosing independent methods of study. These can include, for example, online courses or courses from other student groups’ timetables. Completing assignments through this track involves more independent work and learning compared to the scheduled track.
Timing of exams and assignments
Resit exams may be taken on general resit exam days on Xamk campuses, or in the e-exam room (examination aquarium).
Student workload
The extent of this course is 5 ECTS credits, which equals 135 hours of student work and comprises contact lessons, independents assignments and groupwork.

c) hahmottaa tehtäväkokonaisuuksia
d) toimia työyhteisössä, asiakkaiden, kohderyhmien ja oman alansa sovellusten ja palveluiden käyttäjien kanssa sekä suullisissa että kirjallisissa viestintätilanteissa.
Arvioinnissa huomioidaan myös eurooppalaisen viitekehyksen taitotasokuvaukset ja niistä johdetut kansalliset amk-
taitotasokuvaukset sekä englannin suullisesta että kirjallisesta kielitaidosta.

Assessment methods and criteria
Independent assignments, class work, written exam, oral exam or presentation, active participation in contact lessons.
Assessment criteria, good (3-4)
Students can
a) use professional vocabulary systematically.
b) look for information in the key information sources of the field.
c) identify interrelated tasks.
d) communicate orally and in writing in the workplace, with customers, target groups and the users of applications and services provided in the field.
In addition to these, the assessment of English studies relies on the competence levels defined in the Common European Framework of Reference and the national skills level descriptions based on the European framework.
Qualifications
If you have been instructed to participate in the Intensive course of English, you must complete it or independently acquire the equivalent knowledge and skills before you can participate in this course.
