Objective
Knowledge and understanding of and proficiency in:
- providing medical assistance to an ill or injured person on board
- patient examination and recording the research findings
- leading the planning, implementation and evaluation of ship health and medical care
- maintaining a pharmacy and is able to prescribe and dispense medicines safely
- managing the techniques of drug treatment implementation
- is able to ask the doctor for instructions and actions according to the instructions s/he has received, Radiomedical
- principles of aseptic and aseptic work

Content
Care of casualty involving:
- head and spinal injuries
- injuries of ear, nose, throat and eyes
- external and internal bleeding
- burns, scalds and frostbite
- fractures, dislocations and muscular injuries
- wounds, wound healing and infection
- pain relief
- techniques of sewing and clamping
- management of acute abdominal conditions
- minor surgical treatment
- dressing and bandaging
Aspects of nursing:
- general principles
- nursing care
Diseases, including:
- medical conditions and emergencies
- sexually transmitted diseases
- tropical and infectious diseases
Alcohol and drug abuse
Dental care
Gynecology, pregnancy and childbirth

- disinfection, disinfestation, de-ratting

Keeping records and copies of applicable regulations:
- keeping medical records

External assistance, including:
- radio-medical advice
- transportation of the ill and injured, including helicopter evacuation
- medical care of sick seafarers involving cooperation with port health authorities or out-patient wards in port

Lähitunneilla aktiivinen osallistuminen keskusteluun ja harjoituksiin sekä 100% osallistuminen ja kokeen hyväksytty suoritus.
Assessment criteria, fail (0)
Kirjallisessa kokeessa maksimipisteistä alle 50% väärin antaa hylätyn suorituksen tai jos vastaus aiheuttaa potilaalle vaarallisen tilanteen tai opiskelijalla on poissaoloja oppitunneilta.
Assessment criteria, satisfactory (1-2)
Kokeesta arvosana T1-T2. Opiskelija osaa perusasioita, mutta tiedon soveltaminen käytännön työhön on selkeästi puutteellista. Opiskelija ei aiheuta potilaalle vaaratilannetta.
Assessment criteria, good (3-4)
Kokeesta arvosana H3-H4. Opiskelija osaa perusasiat pääosin hyvin ja osaa soveltaa jossain määrin sairaanhoidollista tietotaitoa potilastilanteissa. Opiskelija ei aiheuta potilaalle vaaratilannetta.
Assessment criteria, excellent (5)
K5 silloin kun opiskelija osaa perusasiat erittäin hyvin ja osaa soveltaa tietojaan potilastilanteeseen virheettömästi.
