Early childhood education and care (5 cr)

Objective

You become familiar with the legislation and day care service system of early childhood education and with the National Core Curriculum Guidelines on Early Childhood Education and Care.
You are able account for the child-centered approach as an educational starting point.
You study learning areas and the importance of learning environments in early childhood education, and are able to plan, implement and evaluate activities that meet the criteria of the National Core Curriculum Guidelines on Early Childhood Education and Care.
You are able to observe and study children's play from developmental theoretical and interactive perspective.

What are the laws and guidelines regulating early childhood education and care?
How is child-centeredness defined, and what does it mean as an educational approach?
What are learning areas and what is the meaning of learning environments in pedagogical planning?
How are activities for children in day care planned, implemented and evaluated based on the National Core Curriculum Guidelines on Early Childhood Education and Care?
What is play and how does it develop during childhood?
What is the role of play in the development and learning of a child?

Study forms and methods

Lainsäädäntöön ja palvelujärjestelmään liittyvän osaamisesi osoitat 1 op:een yksilö-Learn-tentissä.

Opintojaksosta 4 op järjestetään Xamkin 25.11.2020 päivittämien koronaohjeiden mukaisesti seuraavasti:
- Kontaktiopetus (1,5 op) koostuu käänteisellä opetuksella verkossa toteutetuista kontaktitunneista, pienryhmätyöskentelystä ja itsenäisestä perehtymisestä kontaktiopetukseen liitettyyn opiskelumateriaaliin (verkkoluennot ja artikkelit).
- 2,5 op:een oppimistehtävä suoritetaan pienryhmissä syventämällä pedagogista osaamista (varhaiskasvattajan haastattelu, kirjallisen oppimistehtävän tekeminen, tehtävän annin esittely) tai ohjaten lapsiryhmää omassa työssä työhön integroidusti.

Opintojaan nopeuttavat voivat suorittaa opintojakson toisen ryhmän toteutuksella.

Timing of exams and assignments

Itsenäinen Learn-tentti (1 op) tulee suorittaa opintojakson toteutusaikana.

Assessment methods and criteria

Learn-tentti ja kontaktiopetus arvioidaan asteikolla hyväksytty - täydennettävä - hylätty. Oppimistehtävä arvioidaan asteikolla 0-5. Opintojakson kokonaisarvosana määräytyy oppimistehtävän arvosanan perusteella.
