Medical care 3 (A-VI/4-1, A-VI/4-2) (2 cr)

Objective

Knowledge and understanding of and proficiency in:
- providing medical assistance to an ill or injured person on board
- patient examination and recording the research findings
- leading the planning, implementation and evaluation of ship health and medical care
- maintaining a pharmacy and is able to prescribe and dispense medicines safely
- managing the techniques of drug treatment implementation
- is able to ask the doctor for instructions and actions according to the instructions s/he has received, Radiomedical
- principles of aseptic and aseptic work
- additional accident prevention and risks deployment

Content

Care of casualty involving:
- head and spinal injuries
- injuries of ear, nose, throat and eyes
- external and internal bleeding
- burns, scalds and frostbite
- fractures, dislocations and muscular injuries
- wounds, wound healing and infection
- pain relief
- techniques of sewing and clamping
- management of acute abdominal conditions
- minor surgical treatment
- dressing and bandaging

Aspects of nursing:
- general principles
- nursing care

Diseases, including:
- medical conditions and emergencies
- sexually transmitted diseases
- tropical and infectious diseases

Alcohol and drug abuse

Dental care

Gynecology, pregnancy and childbirth

Medical care of rescued persons

Death at sea

Hygiene

Disease prevention including:
- disinfection, disinfestation, de-ratting
- vaccinations

Keeping records and copies of applicable regulations:
- keeping medical records
- international and national maritime medical regulations

External assistance, including:
- radio-medical advice
- transportation of the ill and injured, including helicopter evacuation
- medical care of sick seafarers involving cooperation with port health authorities or out-patient wards in port

Study forms and methods

Edeltävyysehto: Terveydenhuolto 2 opintojakson hyväksytty suorittaminen.

Lähiopetuksessa luennot ja ohjatut harjoitukset, oppimateriaali Learnissa, yhteistoiminnallinen oppiminen. Aikaan ja paikkaan sitomaton itsenäinen opiskelu.


Hyväksytysti suoritetusta opintojaksosta opiskelija saa sertifikaatin ”Sairaanhoidollisten toimien suunnittelu ja turvallinen toteuttaminen onnettomuudessa tai muussa hätätilanteessa (STCW A-VI/4-2), mukaan lukien Manilan sopimus 2010.”

Työhön integroitu oppimisväylä:
Opiskelija voi hakea hyväksilukua/ AHOT jos hänellä on opintojakso tehty ja opinnot ovat voimassa olevat, 5v kts. EU-direktiivit. AHOT-menettelyssä voimassa olevalla sertifikaatilla hyväksilukua haettaessa opiskelija antaa aina näytön osaamisestaan.

Tenttiasiat ja muut ajankohdat sovimme opintojakson alussa lähitunneilla. Tentin opiskelija voi tehdä Examissa kun lähitunnit ja harjoitukset on hyväksytysti suoritettuina.

Student workload

2 opintopistettä on 54 tuntia opiskelijan työnä mukaan lukien itsenäinen opiskelu.
