Objective

You are able to actively use the basic professional vocabulary of your field.
You are able to look for information in English in professional sources and apply it in different study and work related communication situations.
You are able to communicate in English in various spoken and written situations in your professional field at the European level B2.

Content

What professional vocabulary is essential in your professional field?
How to look for information in professional sources in English and how to apply this information?
How to interact in spoken communication situations in English and how to draw up texts in English for professional purposes?
How to communicate in study-related situations and work communities in English?

Course material

The study materials are provided by the teacher via the Learn platform.

Study forms and methods

The course is mainly carried out by way of unscheduled online study but it also has scheduled online lessons, in which minimum attendance requirement is 50%. The scheduled online lessons entail work in pairs and in small groups. During online lessons, the students must have a video and audio connection.

Independent study are carried out on the Learn platform. Access to the platform opens on the starting day of the course.

Apart from one oral communication assignment which is completed in pairs/small groups, the assessed assignments are completed individually. The assignments must be submitted by the given deadlines.

RDI and work-related cooperation

This course entails no RDI nor work-related cooperation.

Timing of exams and assignments

Assignments must be completed by the given deadlines, and an exam must be taken at the end of the course via the Exam system. The end date of the course is presented in the course details. By this date, the student must submit all assignments and take the exam.

International cooperation

There is no international cooperation in this course.

Student workload

By definition, 1 ECTS credit equals 27 hours of work by the student. However, the effective amount of work depends on the students' study skills and prior learning.

Assessment criteria, satisfactory (1)

Ability to communicate in English orally and in writing in various situations in the professional field mainly at the European (CEFR) level B1.

Assessment criteria, good (3)

Ability to communicate in English orally and in writing in various situations in the professional field mainly at the European (CEFR) level B2.

Assessment criteria, excellent (5)

Ability to communicate in English orally and in writing in various situations in the professional field mainly at the European (CEFR) level C1.

Assessment methods and criteria

The student’s performance is assessed with reference to the learning objectives and assessment criteria of the course. The completion of the course requires all assignments to be completed with a passing grade, and the exam to be taken with a passing grade.

Assessment scale of passing grades is 1–5, and 0 for a failed performance.

Qualifications

If you have been instructed to participate in the Intensive course in English, you must complete it or independently acquire the equivalent knowledge and skills before you can participate in this course.
