Objective

The student is able to assertively and appropriately communicate in English in the professional context, also in unexpected situations. S/he is familiar with the key terminology of the field and can utilise her language skills in expert tasks. The target level is B2 as described by the European Framework (CEF), also in work-related situations.
After completing the course, the student is able to compose in English a CV and a cover letter, describe her/his education, work experience and competence, compose formal work-related emails, describe the responsibilities, routine tasks and technical applications according to her/his specialisation using appropriate terminology, as well as prepare and give a professional presentation taking into account the demands of a culturally mixed audience.

All materials will be provided by the teacher.

Study forms and methods

Scheduled track:
The student attends the required number of lessons and completes obligatory assignments as instructed by the teacher.

Independent track:
Each case must be initiated by the student and will be independently decided.

Blended track:
Each case must be initiated by the student and will be independently decided.

RDI and work-related cooperation

This course does not include RDI and work-related cooperation.

Timing of exams and assignments

All mandatory assignments must be completed and the exam passed within 12 months of the end date of the course.

Assessment of written skills is primarily based on an examination
Assessment of oral skills is primarily based on a presentation which is individually prepared and delivered.

Qualifications

Participation in this course requires that the student has completed the course Maritime English 1, or is simultaneously completing it.
