Objective
Knowledge and understanding of and proficiency in:
- performing and monitoring all cargo operations
- physical and chemical properties of oil cargoes
- taking precautions to prevent hazards
- applying occupational health and safety precautions
- responding to emergencies
- taking precautions to prevent pollution of the environment
- monitoring and controlling compliance with legislative requirements
Content
- oil tanker design, systems and equipment.
- pump theory and characteristics, including types of cargo pumps and their safe operation
- tanker safety culture and implementation of safety-management systems
- monitoring and safety systems, including the emergency shutdown
- cargo measurements and calculations
- effect of bulk liquid cargoes on the trim, stability and structural integrity
- cargo-related operations, plans, procedures and checklists
- calibration and use of monitoring and gas-detection systems, instruments and equipment
- management and supervision of personnel appointed with cargo-related responsibilities
- physical and chemical properties of oil cargoes and information of MSDS
- hazards and control measures associated with oil tanker cargo operations
- safe working practices, risk assessment and personal shipboard safety relevant to oil tankers including enclosed spaces, work permits and precautions
- oil tanker emergency procedures
- actions to be taken following collision, grounding or spillage
- first aid procedures on board oil tankers
- procedures to prevent pollution of the atmosphere and environment
- MARPOL, common industry guidelines and port regulations
