Objective

Knowledge and understanding of and proficiency in:
- contribute to the enhancement of maritime security through heightened awareness
- recognition of security risks and threats
- understanding of the need for and methods of maintaining security awareness and vigilance
- maintain the conditions set out in a ship security plan
- undertake regular security inspections of the ship
- proper usage of security equipment and systems

Content

- security terms and definitions
- international maritime security policy
- security responsibilities of governments, companies and persons
- security levels and their impact on security measures and procedures
- security reporting procedures
- security related contingency plans, drills, exercises and conducting inspections and surveys
- security risks and threats: documentation, techniques of circumvention, recognition, communication and control-methods
- methods for monitoring and controlling: restricted-, deck-, cargo-, stores-, embarkation/ disembarkation- and surrounding areas of the ship
- security systems and equipment: types, use, limitations, testing and maintenance

Content complies with IMO model courses 3.27 and 3.26.

Study forms and methods

Scheduled track:
Attendance at teaching and guidance sessions as specified in the schedule. Participation in lectures and completion of exercises.

Independent track:
Discussion with the teacher, and if necessary PSP-planning with your own mentor teacher.
