Objective

Knowledge and understanding of and proficiency in:
- structure, operation and control of the main electrical system of vessels
- network overcurrent and contact voltage protection
- overcurrent and earth-fault protection of the isolated and extinguished network
- networks behavior in fault situations
- maintenance and servicing of the automation and control systems of the power grid and its components

Content

- synchronization
- load sharing

Evaluation

Students can
- use professional vocabulary and concepts in an expert way in different situations
- choose appropriate models, methods, software and techniques according to the purpose and justify these choices
- work as team members in working life expert duties and identify and describe the problems of the professional field

In addition, competence evaluation according to STCW code table A-III/6 column 4 are used:
- the effect of malfunctions on associated plant and systems is accurately identified, ship’s technical drawings are correctly interpreted, measuring and calibrating instruments are correctly used and actions taken are justified
- isolation, dismantling and reassembly of plant and equipment are in accordance with manufacturer’s safety guidelines and shipboard instructions and legislative and safety specifications. Action taken leads to the restoration of automation and control systems by the method most suitable and appropriate to the prevailing circumstances and conditions
