Objective

You can use different sources of information and evaluate how useful they are.
You know how to act in social media and how to communicate through emails and other written communication tools.
You know the information technology tools offered by Xamk and are able to use them (eg. Microsoft Office, Zoom).
You can produce and handle simple digital content and understand the meaning of user rights and licenses.
You can protect your personal information and hardware.
You have some knowledge of information security, copyright and you can manage on the web.

Content

Which are the possibilities and challenges of information technology. How to use Word, Excel, PowerPoint and other software in your studies?
What does security mean on the web and in studies and at work?
What can you borrow and how much? How to use sources and to remember copyright?
How do you use the web and email in working life?
Where can you find reliable information in your own field?

Study forms and methods

Individual learning track and showing of previous know-how for ICT tools, 5 ECTS, is agreed separately with the teacher.

There is no exam in the course. Assignments during the course have task-specific deadlines.

Course part description

After completing the course
* You are able to use ICT applications appropriately as an individual and in group work
* You are able to use office programs to create the most common documents, presentations and tables related to your field
* You are able to operate in a secure manner.

The courses cover e.g. the following topics
* What ICT applications are used and how are they used in studies and working life?
* How to use word processors, presentation graphics and spreadsheet programs to create the most common documents related to your field?
* What is meant by information security and how to act securely in studies and working life?

Further information

For in-person classes, you will need to bring your own computer. The computer must be able to connect to the school's wireless network. (Wi-Fi, connect to network feature)

Office 365 tasks: 10%
Word tasks: 20%
Power Point task: 30%
