You are able to actively use the basic professional vocabulary of your field.
You are able to look for information in English in professional sources and apply it in different study and work related communication situations.
You are able to communicate in English in various spoken and written situations in your professional field

What professional vocabulary is essential in your professional field?
How to look for information in professional sources in English and how to apply this information?
How to interact in spoken communication situations in English and how to draw up texts in English for professional purposes?
How to communicate in study-related situations and work communities in English?

Course material

The course material consists of online material in Learn compiled by the teacher and the students

Study forms and methods

The studies include scheduled online classes as well as independent work with the materials provided by the teacher.
The online classes provide a platform to practice the course content orally and in small groups. The attendance policy is 50% of the classes provided online.

The course material consists of modules that all include practice tasks as well as obligatory tasks to be submitted according to the course's time frame. The submission timelines are presented on the Learn page. The assessment of the obligatory tasks is stated in Learn within each assignment. When meeting the submission deadlines, one can take the assignments in one's own pace.

There will be an oral exam at the end of the course. The booking activity for the oral exam as well as the schedule of the exam will be presented on the Learn page.

The written exam will be taken in an Exam room on one of the Xamk's campus, or visiting an other institution's Exam room.

RDI and work-related cooperation

The course does not contain RDI projects, yet the learning tasks connected to practical nursing.

Timing of exams and assignments

The studies include scheduled work and assignment submission regarding each module is presented on the Learn page.
Continuous assessment is implied. There will be both an oral exam and a written exam in the end of the course.
The written exam will be taken in an Exam room on one of the Xamk's campuses or as an Exam visit in another institution.

A detailed schedule and assessment criteria will be published at the beginning of the course.

Assessment methods and criteria

Continuous assessment and exams.
Assessment is based on The Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFR). To pass the course, students must complete the assignments with a grade to pass and reach level B1.1 on the CERF scale in the exams.

Qualifications

If you have been instructed to participate in the Intensive course in English, you must complete it or independently acquire the equivalent knowledge and skills before you can participate in this course.
