Objective

You learn to understand the importance of water globally. You know how clean water is produced for human consumption and for other purposes and how the used water is eventually cleaned. You can choose correct treatment methods for urban and rural areas. You know recent technology and methods used in water systems development. You have experience of drinking water production and wastewater treatment operations.

Content

How is drinking water produced in urban and rural areas?
Which parameters influence the quality of drinking water?
How is wastewater treated and how is the treatment process optimized?
How can models be used in water systems planning and operation?

Material provided by the teacher on Learn platform, and e-literature.

Study forms and methods

The course can be included in the schedule as part of an individual learning path.
The course is implemented both as time-bound online teaching and as time-bound distance teaching sessions. Participation in distance learning courses is voluntary, except in connection with a seminar.
Teacher guidance is available in connection with distance learning sessions and by separate arrangement.
Studying takes place in the Learn environment. Access to the course platform opens on the day the course begins. In addition to internet connection, video and audio connection is required to participate.

Timing of exams and assignments

A seminar in the latter part of the course, and a Learn exam at the latter part of the course.The study period ends at the time indicated in the implementation information, by which time all learning tasks, exams, and other tasks related to the completion of the study period must be completed.

Student workload

135 hours. However, the amount of work depends on your study skills and previous knowledge.

Assessment methods and criteria

The evaluation is done in relation to the competence goals and evaluation criteria of the course. Completion of the course includes the approved completion of all learning assignments.
