Objective
You understand environmental management as a part of organizational management. You are able to identify different types of management systems regarding the environment, health, safety and quality and understand the difference between a standardized management system and management. You are able to participate in the development and maintenance of environmental management systems in organizations with the help of the standards available. You have a view of the role and responsibilities of EHS specialists in organizations.

What are the basic principles of the most commonly used environmental management system standards (ISO 14001, EMAS)?
What does continued improvement mean in the context of environmental management?
Why is environmental management an elemental part of organizational management?
Course material
The following learning material is used in the course:
Relevant standards (available in Xamk Library's e-resources) and other materials to be announced later.
Study forms and methods
The course is carried out mainly by way of scheduled online lessons. The scheduled online lessons entail work in groups and require active participation. The teacher provides guidance during lessons and part of the group work is also done during lessons.
Studies are carried out on the Learn platform. Access to the platform opens near the starting day of the course. In addition to having an internet connection, the students must also have a video and audio connection during online lessons.
The course grade is based on assessed group and individual assignments.
RDI and work-related cooperation
Guest lectures will, whenever possible, be given by representatives from the world of work.
Timing of exams and assignments
The assigned course tasks must be submitted by the given deadlines. There is no exam in this course.

1 ECTS credits equals 27 hours of work by the student.
Student's total maximum workload is approximately 135 hours including lessons, group work and independent study.
