Objective

The student understands the importance of personal cyber hygiene in the context of societal cybersecurity and corporate information security.
The student understands the key terminology related to the field of cybersecurity .
The student can carry out activities in cyberspace in a protected manner and reduce the risk of becoming a victim of an attack.
The student knows the most common information security control mechanisms and frameworks and can utilize them when building protections.

Content

What are the basic concepts of digital security?
What are Information Security Controls?
What various regulations and frameworks exist related to information and digital security?

Course material

The course utilizes lecture materials and resources gathered from open sources.

Study forms and methods

The course is delivered entirely as in-person teaching on the Kotka campus, following the timetable. Remote participation is not possible. In-person teaching sessions are generally not recorded, nor are they replaced with remote lectures when in-person teaching is scheduled. Some teaching may take place in a laboratory environment. Attendance at oral exercises is mandatory to complete the course.

The course consists of approximately 14 lecture sessions, including individual and small group tasks conducted during class.

Timing of exams and assignments

The course includes individual and group learning assignments. There is no separate exam in the course.

The course involves weekly assignments. During the course, students will work on group projects that must be presented during the course.
