Objective

The common part (3 ECTS cr) for the bachelor's degree students of all programs:
- You know how to use Xamk`s own systems and the most common digital tools in your studies and profession.
- You will be able to create the most common documents, presentations and spreadsheets.
- You know how to work with information security mindset.

The field-specific part (2 ECTS cr):
- You know the most common digital tools and services in your professional field.
- You know how to use appropriate digital applications and utilize your skills in tasks in your field.

Content

The common part (3 ECTS cr) for the bachelor's degree students of all programs:
- Which Xamk systems do you need during your studies?
- Which information and communication technology applications do you need in your studies and profession?
- How to create the most common documents using word processing, presentation graphics and spreadsheets?
- What is meant by information security and how to work securely in your studies and profession?

The field-specific part (2 ECTS cr):
- Which digital tools and services are used in your professional field?
- How do you use digital applications and utilize your skills in tasks in your professional field?

Course material

The study material for the shared component will be published in the Learn environment at the start of the course.

Study forms and methods

The course consists of two components, which are assessed separately: the shared component (3 ECTS) and the field-specific component (2 ECTS). A more detailed description can be found below.

The shared component must be completed by October 19, 2025, by which time all assignments for this section must be completed and submitted on the Learn platform. The instructor for the shared component is Anssi Salmi, and there is a separate Learn platform for this part

There is no exam in the shared component. The shared component must be complited no later than October 19, 2025.

The course ends at the time specified in the course implementation details, by which time all learning assignments and other tasks related to completing the course must be completed.

Course part description

This implementation consists of two parts: a shared component worth 3 credits and a field-specific component worth 2 credits.

In the shared component, basic digital skills are covered, such as the use of spreadsheet software, presentation software, and word processing software. The shared component also includes an introduction to Xamk's systems, which play an important role during the studies.

The field-specific component focuses on digital skills related to the student's field of study.

Both components are assessed separately. A passing grade must be obtained in both parts for the entire course to be evaluated.

Assessment methods and criteria

The assessment is based on the learning objectives and evaluation criteria of the course. Successful completion of the course requires both the shared component and the field-specific component to be completed with a passing grade.

The grading scale for the course is 1–5. The instructor will provide more detailed information on the assessment and evaluation criteria at the beginning of the course.

The common part (3 ECTS cr) for the bachelor's degree students of all programs is implemented online in the Learn environment. In the field-specific (2 ECTS cr) part, the method of implementation is on-site or online studies, according to the degree program's own decision.
