Environmental health and vaccination (5 cr)

Objective

You can take into account different environmental factors that can strengthen or threaten health.
You can promote healthy, safe and accessible environments for the different age groups.
You can collaborate in exceptional situations and emergencies of environmental health.
You can apply national and international rules and regulations applicable to the prevention and treatment of infectious diseases.
You master the prevention and treatment of infectious diseases in Finland and can advise a client accordingly.
You will complete the national Advanced Vaccination Competence course (1 ECTS credit).

In what type of situations does a public health nurse collaborate with environmental health care?

Study forms and methods

The course contains three parts: Deepening vaccination skills 1 ECTS, infectious diseases 2 ECTS and health hazards of living and living environment 2 ECTS.
The course includes online teaching, theory and workshops, seminar work, simulation exercises, learning tasks and expert visits.

RDI and work-related cooperation

The living and living environment section includes a health inspector's lecture.
The vaccination section includes simulation exercises.

Timing of exams and assignments

It will be announced at the beginning of the study period.
In the course, learning tasks are carried out in connection with each section. Learning assignments are evaluated on a scale of passed-to-be-completed-failed and they must be completed with approval. The grade (1-5) is affected by the residential and living environment healthcare and infectious diseases exam.

Course part description

Infectious diseases (teacher Taina Lehtonen) in the classroom teaching section according to the work schedule.

Deepening vaccination skills (teacher Johanna Koskenniemi) consists of simulation exercises, a theory and workshop, vaccination exercises, an online assignment and an online exam. In the coming days, 100% attendance is mandatory.

The health hazards of housing and living environment (teacher Johanna Koskenniemi) part consists of theory and workshop, seminar work, expert visit, online studies and online exam. In the coming days, 100% attendance is required.

Basics of vaccination skills 2 credits must be completed before participating in the course.

Deepening of Vaccination Competence 1 credit to be completed in this Study Course must be completed with approval before starting the nursing internships.

Assessment methods and criteria

Health hazards of housing and living environment Exam exam Exam exam is evaluated on a scale of 1-5. The topic's group assignment is evaluated on a pass-fail scale.
The task and exam for deepening vaccination skills are completed in Metropolia's Moodle and evaluated on a pass-fail scale.
The exam for the Infectious Diseases section is conducted in classroom teaching as a Learn exam, Assessment scale 1-5.
