Content

What kind of a learning community is Xamk, and what are the study networks at Xamk like?
How do you build your own study and career plan?
How do you identify your own skills and enhance your employability?
What is your professional field like, and what are the professional ethics in your field?
How do you market your skills and strengthen your job search skills?
How do you advance your continuous learning?

Course material

Study materials are provided by the teacher in class or via the Learn platform. The teacher will give you the key to the Learn-platform in August 2025 when the studies begin.

Study forms and methods

Study and workplace skills belongs to the common studies and it is carried out during the studies.
The course includes the orientation in Mikkeli campus and guiding discussions.
The assignments and themes will be presented in the beginning of the study course.
The study course supports the student during the studies

Students make progress by attending scheduled lessons and completing tasks and assignments individually or in groups.

The teacher provides guidance during and after contact lessons and by e-mail/via Learn.

The assessed assignments are completed independently/in groups/in pairs.

Feedback is provided by different methods, in writing and/or orally. Also, peer feedback can be used.

The course consists of four parts which are separately assessed and are arranged during the three study years. More detailed information available below in section “Course part description”.

RDI and work-related cooperation

During the spring 2026 the group will get accuainted with forest organizations and there will be visitors from working life.

Timing of exams and assignments

An assignment must be completed during each section of the course. There is no exam in this course.

The end date of the course is presented in the course details. By this date, the student must submit all assignments.

Student workload

1 ECTS credits equals 27 hours of work by the student. Workload includes lessons, group work and independent study.

Course part description

The student's workload:

First year: Orientation to Studies 1 ECTS and Workplace Skills 2 ECTS
Second year: Ethics in One's Field 1 ECTS
Third year: Marketing Your Expertise 1 ECTS

Assessment methods and criteria

The student’s performance is assessed with reference to the learning objectives and assessment criteria of the course. The completion of the course requires all assignments to be completed with a passing grade.
