Objective

Patient safety
You understand the importance of patient safety in nursing settings.
You have command of the central tenets of patient safety.
You know how to promote patient safety and prevent patient safety incidents at different stages of the patient care process.
You are able to function immediately as the situation mandates in the event of a patient safety incident.

Data management in healthcare
You are able to comply with data protection and security requirements and the regulations of the social wellness and health care sector.
You are able to observe online etiquette, the rules and procedures that pertain to email, to take into account cyber security and also to safely use social media and electronic health information services from a professional perspective.

Evidence-based nursing
You understand what evidence-based practice is in the work and decision- making of a nurse.
You are capable of searching the most common health sciences databases and reading scientific publications.
You know how to use healthcare information technology, electronic databases and reporting tools.
You are able to apply evidence-based data in your work.

Ethical activities of the nurse
You know how to act in accordance with the ethical principles of your field.

What contributes to an organization's patient safety culture?
What is the legislation of patient safety?
What are included in the following areas of patient safety: device safety, treatment safety, medication safety?
How are patient safety incidents prevented in patient care? How do you prevent dangerous incidents during patient care?
What do you do in the event of a patient safety incident?
How is patient safety ensured through effective teamwork, systematic work practices and via responding to risk situations that threaten patient safety?

Information management in healthcare
On what laws and regulations are healthcare data protection and security based?
How are data protection and security implemented in different client / patient care environments?
What constitutes confidentiality?
What do online etiquette, email rules and procedures, secure social media, and the use of e-health information services comprise from a professional perspective?

Assessment methods and criteria

The course includes written assignments and an exam.
The seminar paper will be assessed numerically T1-K5, to be completed, fail
Exam will be assessed T1-K5, fail
Patient safety (online training) will be assessed: approved/to be completed

For the course to be passed, all assignments and exams must be returned on time.
