Objective

You can explain the impact of globalization on international business.

You can assess the political, legal, economic and cultural environment of countries & regions and thus can an analyze different market areas.

You are able choose proper internationalization strategies and market entry modes.

You can describe the main WTO and EU trade rules and how they affect businesses.

Content

What is globalization and what are its implications for companies doing business internationally?

What are the main challenges companies operating internationally face in terms of different political/legal/economic/cultural environment?

Which are the main internationalization strategies and market entry modes; and how to assess their risks?

What are WTO and EU trade principles and how may they affect businesses doing import and export?

Course material

Study materials are provided by the teacher in class or via the Learn platform.

Study forms and methods

• The course is carried out by way of contact teaching on Kouvola campus according to a weekly schedule. Remote participation is not possible. Scheduled contact lessons are not recorded nor duplicated by online lectures.
• Students make progress by attending scheduled lessons and completing tasks and assignments individually or in groups. The course consists of lessons and individual and small-group assignments.

RDI and work-related cooperation

Guest lectures will be given by representatives from the world of work.

Timing of exams and assignments

The course entails group and individual assignments.

The end date of the course is presented in the course details. By this date, the student must submit all assignments for an approved course completion.

Student workload

• 1 ECTS credits equals 27 hours of work by the student.
• In a 5-credit course, the student's total maximum workload is approximately 135 hours including lessons, group work and independent study.
