International business (5 cr)

Objective

You are able to analyze the international business environment. You can identify global business opportunities and prerequisites and analyze market areas. You are familiar with the strategies of international operations. You are able to compare different operation models and select the most appropriate model for the company.

Content

What are the most important features in the international business environment? What are companies' opportunities and prerequisites related to international operations? What are the strategies of international operations? How to select the most appropriate operation model? What are Russian ways and corporate culture in your field of business?

Course material

The materials used in the course will be published in the Learn environment according to the course schedule.

Study forms and methods

The course is conducted entirely online, without any time or location constraints. The course introduction will be held on Teams and recorded.
Teacher guidance is available during scheduled sessions on Teams. The Teams links for these sessions are visible in Learn (these Q & A times are coordinated with the groups’ schedules). Participation in

Teams meetings requires an internet connection, as well as video and audio capabilities.
The study is structured around independently completed assignments and online exams. Assignments must be submitted according to the given schedule.
Various feedback methods are utilized in the course; written and oral feedback. Additionally, peer feedback can also be utilized.

The course consists of an introduction page and three main sections

RDI and work-related cooperation

Representatives from the working life may visit the course, as agreed upon for each implementation.
The visit can also be a in a form of a video recording.
The learning tasks are based on both the application of theory and practical collaboration with working life.

Timing of exams and assignments

At the end of each section of the course, a learning task is completed, and at the end of the sections, an online exam is taken.
The course ends at the time specified in the implementation details, by which all learning tasks, exams, and other tasks related to the completion of the course must be completed.

International cooperation

Any potential international collaboration will be agreed upon separately for each implementation.

Student workload

1 ECTS credit corresponds to approximately 27 hours of student work.
However, the workload depends on the student’s study skills and prior knowledge.

For a 5 ECTS credit course, the student’s workload is approximately 135 hours.

The courses according to the new curriculum (OPS) have started at the beginning of 2025.

Please note when planning your studies for Autumn Term 2025 that this implementation will no longer be available in Finnish.
Be sure to contact the teacher in advance before the course begins to discuss any exceptional situations.

1-5

Assessment methods and criteria

Assessment is based on the learning objectives and evaluation criteria of the course. For longer assignments, the Learn evaluation matrix is used.

Completion of the course requires the successful completion of all learning tasks.

The assessment scale is 1-5.
