Objective
You can actively use the basic vocabulary of your own field in English.
You can act in English in different communication situations in your field at the European skill level B2.
You can search for information in English-language sources and apply it to study and work.
Content
What essential professional vocabulary do you need?
How do you search information in sources of your field and apply it?
How do you act in English in spoken communication situations and compose texts needed in your field?
How do you communicate in English in the study community and in the workplace?
Course material
Study materials are provided by the teacher in class or via the Learn platform.
Study forms and methods
• The course is mainly carried out by way of unscheduled online study but it also has 6 scheduled online lessons. The scheduled online lessons entail work in groups and require active participation. Participation in scheduled online lessons is not mandatory. Participation in • Studies are carried out on the Learn platform. Access to the platform opens on the starting day of the course.
• The assignments must be submitted by 30 November.
• The course involves an exam, which is to be taken in the Exam acqurium in December.
• Feedback is provided by different methods, in writing and/or orally. Also, peer feedback can be used.

Timing of exams and assignments
Seminaariesitys pidettävä yhdellä kolmesta seminaarikerrasta oman valinnan mukaan.
Tehtävät on palautettava 30.11. mennessä.
Suullinen näyttö (esitys + ryhmäkeskustelu) Teamsissa joulukuun aikana opettajan antamista ajankohdista valittuna aikana.
Kirjalliseen tenttiin on itse varattava aika tenttiakvaarioon ajalle 1.12 - 31.12.
Student workload
• 1 ECTS credits equals 27 hours of work by the student.
• In a 5-credit course, the student's total maximum workload is approximately 135 hours.

Assessment methods and criteria
Palautettavat tehtävät ja seminaari arvioidaan hyväksytty hylätty.
Opintojakson arvosanan perustuu kirjalliseen tenttiin Exam-akvaariossa (60% painoarvo arvosanassa) sekä suulliseen näyttöön (40% painoarvo arvosanassa). Sekä kirjallinen tentti että suullinen näyttö on suoritettava hyväksytyllä arvosanalla kurssin läpäisemiseksi.
