After completing the course, the student is able to:
- use an automation system's main features
- differentiate between the main features of power plant processes
- apply their know-how in the real power plant environment.
Content
DeltaV Automation System: Simulator operation and operation with DCS.
Power plant simulator: Various power plant operating situations such as cold start, shutdown, load change, and problem situations.
Course material
The following literature is used in the course • Turbiinitekniikka ISBN 978-952-5491-92-0 • Voimalaitostekniikka ISBN 978-952-13-5426-7 • Voimalaitosautomaatio ISBN 978-952-5183-32-0 Study materials are provided by the teacher in class or via the Learn platform.
Study forms and methods
• The course is mainly carried out by way of scheduled online study lessons. Participation in scheduled online lessons is mandatory. Participation in the start session is mandatory. The teacher provides guidance during scheduled online lessons.
• Studies are carried out on the Learn platform. Access to the platform opens on the starting day of the course. As a rule, scheduled online lessons are carried out Zoom platform. In addition to having an internet connection, the students must also have a video and audio connection during online lessons.
• Progress is made by completing assignments individually.
• The assessed assignments are completed individually. The assignments must be submitted by the given deadlines.
• Feedback is provided by different methods, in writing and/or orally. Also, peer feedback can be used.

Timing of exams and assignments
An exam must be taken in the last scheduled lesson.
The course entails weekly assignments. A project assignment must be completed in a small group by the end of the course.
The end date of the course is presented in the course details. By this date, the student must submit all assignments, take the required exams and meet all other conditions set for an approved course completion.
Student workload
• In a 5-credit course, the student's total maximum workload is approximately 135 hours including lessons, group work and independent study.
