Objective
You will brush up your Swedish skills by reviewing basic vocabulary and grammar that are essential in field-specific communication situations and working life.
You know how to use various tools to learn Swedish and develop your language learning skills.
Content
What are the Swedish language structures that you will most critically need in your work?
How do you communicate in Swedish in ordinary everyday situations?
What kind of tools are useful for you when studying Swedish?
How can you develop your language learning skills?
Evaluation
The student can:
a) use the central grammatical structures and basic vocabulary of Swedish both in speaking and writing
b) search for information about Swedish language
e) choose tools that support his/her Swedish studies and individually preferred methods of study and use them efficiently.
The goal is that the student achieves Swedish skills at level B1 according to the European Framework, which is the prerequisite for the field-specific Swedish course taught as an obligatory part of a Bachelor’s degree curriculum.
The intensive course will be evaluated Pass/Fail. The student must pass all the exams and assignments as well as participate actively and meet the course deadlines. Details regarding evaluation will be given in the beginning of the course.

Study materials are provided via the Learn platform.
Study forms and methods
• The course is carried out by way of contact teaching on Kouvola campus according to a weekly schedule. Remote participation is not possible. As a rule, scheduled contact lessons are not recorded nor duplicated by online lectures.
• The course consists of 13 lessons, individual assignments and independent studying.
RDI and work-related cooperation
The course does not include RDI and work-related cooperation.
Timing of exams and assignments
The end date of the course is presented in the course details. By this date, the student must submit all assignments, pass the exam and meet all other conditions set for an approved course completion.
The date of the exam will be informed on the Learn platform.
International cooperation
The course does not include international cooperation.

Assessment methods and criteria
The student’s performance is assessed with reference to the learning objectives and assessment criteria of the course. The completion of the course requires an exam be completed with a passing grade.
The scale: pass/fail.
Qualifications
Taking this course requires prior basic knowledge of Swedish language.
