Objective

Knowledge, understanding and proficiency of:
- common deck department maintenance works
- work procedures based on occupational safety and environment protection
- occupational safety and environmental risks at shipwork
- pulling strength of ropes, knots and splices used at shipwork
- metalwork basic skills
- basics of ship maintenance
- importance of cleanliness
- rust removal techniques and procedures
- repair paintings

- ships' maintenance
- washing and cleaning on board
- occupational and environment safety
- knots, splices and different ropes and their materials, rope specifics
- basic metalwork: cutting, sawing, grinding, bending, welding and brazing
- most common ship paints and their applications
- rust prevention and removal

Course material

Studying materials and instructions for training at the school training vessel are in Learn. The textbooks are the books of the ship's designer Jan Babicz:" Ships design in practice"," Ship systems and machinery "and" Ships and their equipment " I'll present them on the school ship and they are in the school library.

Study forms and methods

Scheduled track:
You will attend teaching and guidance sessions as specified in the schedule. Training on the school training vessel. Teaching in class.

Blended track:
Discussion with the teacher and, where appropriate, PSP-planning with your own mentor teacher.

RDI and work-related cooperation

There are no ECTS points for RDI. Maintenance and maintenance work is carried out on the training ship and on board the vessels, during practice.

Timing of exams and assignments

At school, everyone makes a short presentation of the paint used on ships. We look at the principles of paint use and safety requirements in paint use on board.

Student workload

The course is a one educational point course, about 21 hours, that's the time will be spend for preparing the presentation. Basic knowledge of ship maintenance and maintenance work is carried out on board the training ship.

Assessment methods and criteria

Active participation in the teaching process and in the training on the school training vessel, tasks and exercises execution. Students presentation about vessels coating materials. Evaluation by Xamk evaluation criteria.
