Objective

Knowledge and understanding of and proficiency in:
- handling, stowaging and securing dry cargoes
- using available shipboard data related to the handling of bulk cargoes
- using of equipment and data related to ship’s attitude, hull stress and draft survey

Content

- properties of dry and bulk cargoes, quantities, calculations and draft survey
- grain cargo calculations and deck cargo
- ventilation of cargo spaces
- IMSBC and other relevant regulations
- exercises and simulations

Study materials are in the Learn.
The book "Bulk carrier practice" by Captain Jack Isbester from Xamk library.

Study forms and methods

Scheduled track:
You will attend teaching and guidance sessions as specified in the schedule. Cargo quantity calculations in accordance with Load lines agreement 1966/88 and ship stability requirements. Grain and same condition cargoes calculations in accordance with the ship stability requirements at the beginning and at the end (10% fuel and stores) of the trip. Draught survey. Loading NAPA training.

Independent track:
You attend your study in the multi-mode education. Degree of Deck Officer, operational level (STCW A-II/1) OR Certificate of Competency: Deck Officer IS REQUIRED.

Blended track:
Discussion with the teacher and, where appropriate, PSP-planning with your own mentor t

RDI and work-related cooperation

There are no ECTS points for RDI. During the course we are studding Intact Stability and Loading information from different vessels and training for using Loading computer in Loading plans preparation with NAPA Loading computer.

Timing of exams and assignments

The course includes various exercise tasks and exam, NAPA Loading Computer training.

Student workload

The course is 4 e.p. which is about 84 hours. In class, we take 16 x 3 = 48 hours to study theory and work out tasks. NAPA training-6 hours, the rest are for self-study and doing tasks.

Courses required 100% participation, perform tasks, participation in the NAPA training in computer class.

Active participation in the teaching process, tasks and exercises execution. Exam. NAPA training. Evaluation by Xamk evaluation criteria.
