Objective

Knowledge and understanding of and proficiency in the:
- enhancement of maritime security through heightened awareness
- recognition of security risks and threats
- understanding of the need for and methods of maintaining security awareness and vigilance
- appropriate measures set out in a ship security plan
- organization of regular security inspections on the ship
- proper usage of security equipment and systems

Content

- security terminology and definitions
- international maritime security policy
- security responsibilities of governments, companies and persons
- security levels and their impact on security measures and procedures
- security reporting procedures
- security related contingency plans, drills, exercises, inspections and surveys
- security threats and risks: documentation, circumvention techniques, awareness, communication and control-methods
- methods for monitoring and controlling restricted areas, decks, cargo spaces, storage spaces and embarkation/disembarkation areas and areas surrounding the ship
- security equipment and systems: types, use, limitations, testing and maintenance

Study forms and methods

Scheduled track:
Attendance at teaching and guidance sessions as specified in the schedule. Participation in lectures and completion of exercises and an online exam.

Independent track:
Discussion with the teacher, and if necessary PSP-planning with your own mentor teacher.

Blended track:
Not possible.

RDI and work-related cooperation

Course does not include cooperation with RDI and working life.

Exercises are completed during the course and an online exam is completed at the end of the course.
