Course material
Study materials are provided by the teacher in class or via the Learn platform.
Study forms and methods
• The course is carried out by way of contact teaching on Kouvola campus according to a weekly schedule. Remote participation is not possible. As a rule, scheduled contact lessons are not recorded nor duplicated by online lectures. Some lesson activities are carried out in a laboratory/simulation environment. Participation in simulation exercises/oral exercises/company visits is mandatory.
• Students make progress by attending scheduled lessons and completing tasks and assignments individually or in groups. The course consists of 24 lessons/ 2. first years and 12 lesson 3. year and individual and small-group assignments. In addition, company collaboration day of competence must be completed years 1. and 2.
• The teacher provides guidance during and after contact lessons and by asking appointment
• The assessed assignments are completed independently/in groups/in pairs.
• Feedback is provided by different methods, in writing and/or orally. Also, peer feedback can be used.
RDI and work-related cooperation
Guest lectures will be given by representatives from the world of work.
During the course, will be organized a company collaboration day, where will be presented curriculum of Kehittyvä elintarviketekniikka to industry players and networking with them.
Timing of exams and assignments
There is no exam in this course and are separated to 3 years: 2+2+2 cp.
To successfully complete the course, 75% attendance in face-to-face meetings per year, complete homeworks and participation in the planning and execution of the company collaboration day are required.
Student workload
• 1 ECTS credits equals 27 hours of work by the student.
• In a 5-credit course, the student’s workload is approximately 135 hours, of which about 60 hours are scheduled face-to-face meetings under the teacher’s guidance, and the remaining hours are tasks to be completed independently or in groups.
Course part description
In the first year, student participates in the orientation week program and begin building personal study and career plans. Annually, student have a HOPS discussion with student advisor (OVA) to create and update personal study plan (HOPS). Face-to-face meetings focus on identifying one’s skills and how to enhance employ ability, as well as the practices and professional ethics of the food industry through various lectures and assignments. During the first two years, students also participate in the planning and execution of the company collaboration day.

Assessment methods and criteria
The student’s performance is assessed with reference to the learning objectives and assessment criteria of the course. Successful completion of the course requires 75% annual attendance in face-to-face meetings, completion of homework assignments, and participation in the planning and execution of the company collaboration day.
