Objective

Students achieve the required level in chemistry studies at the University of Applied Sciences.

Content

Basics of chemistry, e.g. atomic structure and electron shell, periodic table, chemical symbols of elements and writing molecular formulas, key chemical concepts and units: e.g. mole, molar mass, amount of substance and concentration

Course material

Study materials are provided by the teacher via the Learn platform.

Study forms and methods

• The course is carried out by way of contact teaching on Kotka campus according to a weekly schedule. Remote participation is not possible. As a rule, scheduled contact lessons are not recorded nor duplicated by online lectures.
• Students make progress by attending scheduled lessons and completing tasks. The course consists of 14 lessons and assignments.

RDI and work-related cooperation

The course does not include RDI and workplace collaboration.

Timing of exams and assignments

The course includes an exam, the schedule of which will be announced in Learn platform.

The course includes scheduled assignments that need to be submitted.

The end date of the course is presented in the course details. By this date, the student must submit all assignments according to a separate schedule and take the required exam.

Student workload

• 1 ECTS credits equals 27 hours of work by the student.
• In a 3-credit course, the students total maximum workload is approximately 81 hours including lessons, assignments and independent study.

Assessment methods and criteria

The student’s performance is assessed with reference to the learning objectives and assessment criteria of the course. The completion of the course requires the submission of exercises and exam to be completed with a passing grade.
