Objective

You can actively use the basic vocabulary of your own field in English.

You can act in English in different communication situations in your field at the European skill level B2.

You can search for information in English-language sources and apply it to study and work.

Content

What essential professional vocabulary do you need?
How do you search information in sources of your field and apply it?
How do you act in English in spoken communication situations and compose texts needed in your field?
How do you communicate in English in the study community and in the workplace?

Course material

The study material will be published on the Learn platform during the course.

Study forms and methods

• This course is primarily intended for exchange students as an optional course.
• The course is primarily conducted as independent online studies, but it also includes five scheduled remote teaching sessions. During remote teaching sessions, work is done in groups and active participation is required. Participation in remote teaching sessions is mandatory. Teacher guidance is available during remote teaching sessions.
• The course takes place on the Learn platform. Access to the course platform opens at the latest on the start date of the course. Participation requires, in addition to an internet connection, video and audio connection.
• The tasks to be assessed are done independently. Tasks must be submitted according to the given schedule.

RDI and work-related cooperation

No RDI nor work-related cooperation.

Timing of exams and assignments

During the course, learning tasks are completed independently every week. Some of the learning tasks are evaluated and at the end of the course, an exam is taken in an EXAM room, as well as an oral exam via Teams. The course ends at the time announced in the course information, by which all learning tasks, exams, and other tasks related to the completion of the course must be completed.

Student workload

For a 5-credit course, the student's workload is approximately 135 hours.

Assessment methods and criteria

Evaluation is made in relation to the learning objectives and assessment criteria of the course. The successful completion of the course requires the completion of learning tasks and exams with a passing grade.

Qualifications

The student can communicate independently in communication situations (level B1).
