Automation projects in process industriesLaajuus (5 cr)
Code: PP00EV19
Credits
5 op
Objective
This course is aiming at creating an overview of process automation projects. As a background, examples of energy production processes and main processes of forest industries, and their control principles are considered. Based on this process integration, the main focus lies on the critical project phases such as specification and validation phases. The course includes a core content part of 40 %, and an additional part of 60 % concerning in-work learning and personal projects related to the core content topics. After completing the course, participants are capable to
• present the working and main control principles of CHP power plants as energy production examples
• describe the working and main control principles of essential forest industry processes
• analyse the phases in the lifecycle of automation projects and their critical points
• validate automation applications and ensure the quality of automation projects
• understand basic hardware and software principles of safety automation
• identify the critical points of cyber security and related protection.
Content
How do we run CHP power plants to get heat and electricity to users as desired?
How do we ensure the quality of wood-based energy, chemical fibre or paper and board products?
Which are the phases of the life-cycle in automation projects, and how do we ensure the success of projects?
How do we test the functionality of automation applications in different phases of automation projects?
How are we able to ensure the functional safety in critical plant parts?
How are we able to reduce the possibility of cyber attacks in remote operation, remote programming and remote diagnostics?
