Objective
This course is designed to support Finnish-speaking students in the development
of their academic and professional English Language, in order to best prepare
them for future employment or further study.

Content
- How do you reach a wider range of technical and specialist vocabulary, including language
related to your area of interest and/or Academic English as required?
- How do you use appropriate use of style and register for both formal/informal written and
spoken communications?
- How do you develop appropriate styles and formats for written English?
- How do you improve skills in transactional and interpersonal spoken interactions?
- How do you improved understanding of English as a mode of global communication and its
conventions; for example, academic convention, research genres, professional
use and specialist or technical areas as required?
- What kind of cultural expectations for effective communication and activity using English should you be aware of?
- How do you effectively use accurate grammatical structures, syntax, punctuation and
spelling in written language?
- How do you reach increased awareness of typical errors and issues in language and how to avoid
them
- How do you use global English for educational, work and other purposes?
- How do you reflect on your performance and plan your future autonomous learning?
Qualifications
Overall B2 level of English. It is recommended that you have taken the compulsory English course(s) of your degree programme before this course.
